A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a biker was seriously injured in a County Durham crash.
Police and paramedics were called to the A689 near Wolsingham on Saturday (June 27) after a motorcyclist and car collided at around 1pm.
The biker sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for treatment.
Durham Police has now confirmed that the driver of the car, a 36-year-old woman, was arrested after failing a roadside drug test and was brought into custody.
She has since been released under investigation, the force confirmed.
The road was closed in both directions near Wolsingham Showground following the incident, sparking traffic between the town and the Harperley roundabout.
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 1.10pm on Saturday (June 27) to a collision between a motorcyclist and car on the A689 at Wolsingham.
“The biker sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for treatment.
“The driver of the car, a 36-year-old woman, was arrested after failing a roadside drug test and brought into custody.
“She has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1.03pm on Saturday, June 27, to reports of a road traffic incident on the A689 near Wolsingham in County Durham.
“We dispatched an ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
“One patient was taken to James Cook hospital by air for further treatment.”
