Shoppers queued outside a County Durham Farmfoods store as bargain hunters looked to snap up cut-price items on its final day of trading before relocation.

The store, at Byron Place Shopping Centre in Seaham, will close on Sunday (June 28), ahead of its move into the former B&M unit nearby.

Customers were pictured lining up outside the shop as Farmfoods held a 50 per cent off all stock sale to clear shelves before the move.

The new, larger Farmfoods store is due to open at Byron Place on Thursday, July 2, at 8am.

The relocation is expected to create seven new jobs, with a new entrance also being created as part of the move.

A spokesperson for Farmfoods said the new shop would offer the retailer’s "full range of branded and own-brand products, including frozen food, groceries, chilled foods, bread, milk, fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as household and other items."

The new store will open from 8am Monday to Saturday, closing at 9pm on weekdays and 8pm on Saturdays. Sunday opening hours will be 11am to 5pm.

The move marks an upsize from the existing Farmfoods unit opposite, as the retailer takes over the former B&M store at the shopping centre.
