A popular National Trust site in Northumberland will hold a series of summer events from next month.

Cherryburn, in Mickley, shared that it was 'delighted' to open for the summer on May 14.

It will now host a programme of events from July to October on certain Saturdays.

Visit Northumberland said Cherryburn is an 'unassuming Northumbrian farmstead, birthplace and childhood home of Thomas Bewick, master wood-engraver, artist and natural history author'.

"Bewick is perhaps Northumberland’s greatest artist: a wood engraver and naturalist who revolutionised print art in Georgian England," it continued. "Set in a tranquil garden with views across the Tyne Valley, Cherryburn is surrounded by the natural world that inspired his work.

"Discover his tiny birthplace cottage and farmyard with glorious views over the Tyne Valley, plus a traditional 19th century farmhouse - the later home of the Bewick family, now a museum - with an unrivalled collection of his work and an exhibition about his life.

Cherryburn shared on social media: "We're excited to announce The Nest, a special programme of monthly birding events from July to October, held on selected Saturdays at Cherryburn.

"The Nest is a gathering place for bird lovers - join us at the birthplace of Thomas Bewick, for a series of events celebrating birds, nature and the joy of looking up.

"The first session on Saturday, July 18, is a bird ringing demonstration with local bird ringer and naturalist David Leat. Join a live demonstration and learn about the purpose of bird ringing, discover how to identify common garden birds, and gain insight into their behaviour.

"During the session, you may have the chance to see birds up close while David answers questions and shares his expertise.

"After the demonstration, enjoy exclusive access to the garden. Relax in a deckchair, listen to birdsong, try some sketching with our art materials, or simply unwind with a picnic and meet fellow bird enthusiasts."

The renovated garden at Cherryburn is suitable for people and wildlife, providing seating, wheelchair access, pushchair-friendly paths and planting to attract pollinators.

A Tripadvisor review said Cherryburn is an 'excellent place to visit', in a 'beautiful setting overlooking the Tyne Valley'.

Spaces for The Nest are limited.
