HIGHLAND Games amateur world champion Eve Robson has added the European title to her towering list of achievements.
Eve, 23, of Hurworth-on-Tees, near Darlington, was crowned Women’s European Champion in an open event in the French town of Bressuire.
It follows her becoming the first English woman to win the International Highland Games Federation Amateur World Championships in Norway last summer.
“Winning the world title was obviously the pinnacle, but winning the Europeans was probably my best ever performance because I was on form right from the first event,” said Eve.
Eve faced stiff competition from nine women representing Netherlands, Germany, France, Czechia, and England.
The championships comprised eight disciplines over two days, starting with Eve achieving a venue record in winning the Bremar event, which involves throwing a 14lbs stone.
That was followed with more record-breaking throws to win the Heavy Hammer and Light Hammer, while also coming out top in the Light Weight For Distance, and Heavy Weight For Distance. She also came second in the Weight Over The Bar and Open Stone events.
Eve finished off by winning the iconic Caber Toss with a perfect throw, known as a 12 o’clock because the pole flips end-over-end and points directly away from the thrower.
Eve’s mum and dad, Karen and Tim, travelled with her to France and had the thrill of seeing their daughter finish clear of the field.
“She was absolutely on fire from the first event – we couldn’t be more proud of her,” said Karen.

Eve is now preparing to return to Norway to defend her world title on July 11 and 12.
That will be followed on August 22 by the Scottish World Championships at Glenurquhart, near Loch Ness, where she’ll be hoping for more monster throws.
“I’ll go there full of confidence and, hopefully, come home to Hurworth with more trophies,” said Eve.
