The week in Darlington and County Durham is generally warm and mostly dry, with temperatures rising from the mid-teens to the low twenties Celsius, but with increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms by midweek and especially on Friday.
Monday will start mild with temperatures of 14C at midnight, dipping to 12C between 3am and 5am before rising steadily through the morning to 15C by 8am and 17C by late morning.
The chance of precipitation stays low throughout the night, generally between 10 per cent and under 5 per cent, and remains below 10 per cent for much of the day, indicating a largely dry picture.
By early afternoon the temperature reaches around 18C, peaking at 19C from about 1pm through into the early evening, before easing back to 18C by 8pm and down to 14C by late evening.
On Tuesday the temperature again starts around 13C through the small hours, briefly dipping to 12C between 3am and 5am, before climbing to mid-teens by mid-morning and reaching about 18C at 11am.
From lunchtime onwards the temperature rises to around 19C and holds there through the afternoon and into early evening, before gradually falling to 18C by 8pm, 17C at 9pm and down to 15C by 11pm.
The chance of precipitation increases compared with Monday, starting at around 10 to 20 per cent just after midnight, rising to 30 to 40 per cent through the morning and reaching around 50 to 60 per cent from late morning into mid-afternoon, before easing back from 50 per cent early evening to 20 per cent late evening.
Wednesday is set to be warmer, with temperatures beginning around 14C at midnight, slipping to 13C at 1am and 12C by 4am, before lifting to 15C by 7am and 19C by late morning.
The warmth builds further into the afternoon, with temperatures around 21C at 1pm and a peak close to 22C by 4pm, before easing back to 20C by early evening and 18C by late evening.
The chance of precipitation stays relatively low early on, at about 10 per cent through the night, edging up to 20 per cent by mid-morning and then 30 per cent through the afternoon, rising to around 40 per cent early evening before slipping back to 30 per cent later in the night.
On Thursday, overnight and early morning temperatures hold up, starting around 16C at 1am and 15C between 4am and 7am.
By late morning the temperature lifts to about 18C, reaching 19C around early to mid-afternoon and remaining close to that level through the rest of the afternoon.
Into the evening, values ease back to around 18C at 7pm and 15C by late evening.
The chance of precipitation is higher than earlier in the week at the start of the day, running at about 30 per cent around 1am, then around 20 per cent through the morning and early afternoon, before dropping to about 10 per cent from mid-afternoon into the late evening, suggesting showers become less likely as the day goes on.
On Friday, the Met Office expects outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms across northern areas early on, with hail and gusty winds possible, before these clear northwards.
This will give way to a hot or exceptionally hot day with bright or sunny spells, and further scattered thunderstorms are possible later, some of them heavy.
Extreme heat is forecast to transfer into eastern England, with temperatures widely into the thirties Celsius and the Met Office highlighting Friday as part of a period of red-warning extreme heat for the region.
