Festival to explore Neolithic landscape in North Yorkshire

Two public events will take place, organised by the Thornborough Archaeology Group as part of the Council for British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology.

"Our two events in July, organised and delivered by those who best know the archaeology, are a great opportunity to find out why the henges and their wider landscape matters.

"They tell the story of a place whose renown once spread far and wide.

"A place of wonder, visited perhaps by pilgrims from faraway lands."

The first event, taking place on July 18, will introduce attendees to Thornborough through a talk by Dr Harding, a prehistorian who has worked extensively across the ancient landscape.

The event will include a Q&A session, artefact handling, and a guided tour of the site's three henges.

Aimed at newcomers to Thornborough and British prehistory, it promises to offer a hands-on and engaging introduction to the area’s archaeological importance.

The second event, Exploring Henges and Nature, will be held on July 25 in partnership with English Heritage and Manchester Metropolitan University.

This event will feature a series of in-depth talks designed to deepen understanding of the Neolithic and Bronze Age landscape.

Visitors will also have the chance to speak with archaeologists and heritage experts at dedicated stands from English Heritage and the Thornborough Archaeology Group.

Both events will be held at West Tanfield Memorial Hall in North Yorkshire.

Admission is ticketed and both events are open to the public.
