A young salon owner in County Durham is on a mission to restore confidence for people living with hair loss by introducing a specialist treatment to her business.
Alyssa Findlay, 24, who runs Secrets of the Salon, has invested £2,000 of her own money and travelled to Manchester to train in mesh integration and men’s hair replacement — a non-surgical technique designed to help those experiencing thinning hair.
Now offering the treatment from her salon in Ferryhill, Alyssa says it can support both women and men, including those with alopecia or people who have lost their hair due to cancer.
She said: “It’s for any woman or man who suffers with hair thinning or hair loss, including alopecia clients and those suffering from cancer who have lost hair.”
“I just feel like no one knows about it and I want to get it out there because it could help someone.”
Lyndsay, one of Alyssa's clients, said choosing the mesh integration is "the best thing I've ever done".
Lyndsay, 43, said: "When I was 21, I had my daughter and all my hair was starting to fall out. I just got to a point where I felt so self-conscious and I just decided now was the time to try it.
“It makes me feel amazing. Just being able to put my hair up and not see bald patches is amazing because my hair was that fine.
“It’s brought my confidence back. I was a bit hesitant at first, but Alyssa was fantastic.
"She went through the whole process, made sure I understood it properly, told me what she was going to do. I couldn’t have felt more comfortable.
“She did it in a separate, private room so it was a bit more personal. It was absolutely amazing.”
Alyssa also discussed the different ways people could access the treatment if they are struggling with funds, including NHS funding and charities.
The mum-of-one is looking into local charities who could help with the cost for some of her clients.

The NHS website provides information for those who may need extra support, including: ‘If your hair loss is caused by a medical condition (such as alopecia, chemotherapy, or another diagnosed condition), you may be able to get an NHS-funded wig or help with the cost."
Mesh integration is a non-surgical hair replacement technique designed for clients with thinning hair.
Breathable mesh is secured to the client’s natural hair using micro rings, allowing their own hair to be pulled through the mesh, then high-quality human hair is attached to the mesh. Clients can wash, style and wear their hair as normal and regular maintenance is recommended every six to eight weeks.
Alyssa's salon is also a training academy and offers all hairdressing services, All Hair beauty treatments, hair extensions and it is a training academy.
