Locally, the Met Office has said: "It will be widely very warm and locally hot, especially inland, and also feeling humid.

"Patchy cloud and sunny periods with light winds, which will keep coastal areas cooler and fresher."

The warm and humid conditions are expected to persist overnight, offering little respite from the daytime heat.

They added for tonight: "Despite largely clear skies many places will have another warm or very warm night, especially in large towns and cities, with the humid conditions persisting."
