A village pub on the edge of the North York Moors has been drawing diners from far and wide, with visitors praising its Sunday lunch, homemade dishes and authentic character.
Egton is a small village sitting between Whitby and Pickering on the edge of the North York Moors.
The steam trains of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway run through neighbouring Grosmont just up the road.
The Wheatsheaf Inn is on the High Street of the village.
One customer came for Sunday lunch and returned five days later. A couple from Derbyshire go back every year.
With 395 reviews and a Travellers' Choice award, it is not a secret among people who know the Moors well. But if you have never been to Egton, it is probably a secret to you.

A couple who stopped in on the way back from Whitby described their food as "beautifully presented, piping hot, clearly homemade, superbly tasty and as fresh as a daisy" and said they "won't need any egging on to return to Egton."
One family enjoyed Sunday lunch so much they came back five days later. "This was an exceptional tasty meal," they wrote.
"The most amazing Yorkshire Puds. The staff were super efficient, attentive to the right degree."
A couple from Derbyshire who return annually called it "a winning formula" and described Sunday lunch as "absolutely first class — perfectly cooked veg, generous portion of melt in the mouth meat, huge Yorkshire and thick delicious gravy."
It is, as one reviewer put it simply, "a lovely, authentic village pub, oozing character."
What to order
The Sunday lunch is the main event — roast beef, pork or lamb, served pink or well done according to your preference, with a full spread of vegetables and the Yorkshire puddings that keep getting mentioned.
The fish pie gets its own dedicated following: one reviewer described salmon, haddock and prawns in a spiced rose sauce topped with mashed potato and melted cheese, and called the flavour "excellent."
Save room for pudding.
The homemade chocolate fondant was described by one visitor as "the best dessert I have had out in a long time."
The trio of mini desserts — brownie, chocolate pot and bread and butter pudding — has been called "superb" by multiple visitors.

Getting there
The Wheatsheaf is on the High Street in Egton, about six miles from Whitby and four miles from Pickering, with parking front and rear.
Booking ahead is strongly advised at weekends.
The village is also a short walk from Egton station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway if you fancy arriving by steam train.
