A County Durham man has been fined for carrying an axe in public "without good reason or lawful authority".

Brady Dixon, 27, of Ward Terrace, Wolsingham, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on June 18, after admitting possessing a sharply pointed article in a public place.

The offence took place on March 27, when Dixon was found with an axe in the County Durham.

He pleaded guilty to the charge at a hearing on May 18.

The court issued an order depriving him of the axe and imposed fine of £200.

Dixon was also ordered to pay £85 in prosecution costs and an £80 victim services surcharge.

The court took Dixon’s guilty plea into account when determining the sentence.
