A new junior parkrun is set to launch soon, with organisers calling for volunteers to help bring the popular weekly event to life.

The free 2km run, aimed at children aged four to 14, will take place every Sunday morning at Stockton’s Waterfront Park, and is designed to encourage young people to get active in a welcoming environment.

Ahead of its launch, Parkrun organisers are now recruiting volunteer Run Directors to join its core team.

The Run Director role involves leading the volunteer team on event days, carrying out safety checks, coordinating marshals and timekeepers, and helping to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere for participants and their families.

No previous experience is required, with full training and support provided.

Volunteers will also be responsible for welcoming newcomers, supporting safeguarding procedures, and making decisions on event safety in relation to weather or course conditions.

Organisers say the role is a great opportunity for people to support community wellbeing while helping children enjoy the outdoors.

A spokesperson said: “Junior parkrun is a free, fun and friendly weekly event, and we’re excited to bring it to Waterfront Park.

“We’re looking for enthusiastic people with community spirit who want to help make Sunday mornings special for local children and families.”

The role requires volunteers to be aged 18 or over, with an enhanced DBS check provided free of charge.

Run Directors are expected to take part on a rota basis, usually around once a month.

The team are looking for someone friendly, organised and confident working as part of a team, with a passion for supporting young people.

An official launch date for the new route has yet to be revealed, with organisers currently recruiting volunteers to help get the event up and running.
