A popular North Yorkshire department store is on the hunt for a new head chef to lead its kitchen team.

Barkers in Northallerton is hiring a head chef/ kitchen manager for its 1882 Café & Bistro, offering a full-time, permanent position.

The role involves leading a "dynamic" team, managing kitchen operations, and shaping seasonal menus.

The role is for 40 hours a week, with daytime hours only, including weekends.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the kitchen, managing rotas and holidays, and overseeing stock control and supplier relationships.

They will also work closely with management to shape seasonal menus, develop new dishes and maintain high standards of food quality and presentation.

Barkers says it is looking for someone with proven experience as a head chef or kitchen manager in a similar environment, with strong knowledge of food hygiene and Environmental Health regulations.

The listing says: “Applicants should be confident managing a small team, have experience with ordering and inventory, and be passionate about seasonal cooking and menu innovation.”



The role offers a competitive salary, a full 40‑hour daytime-only contract, and the opportunity to provide creative input into the menu and the bistro's future direction, within a busy and well-established business.
