A Darlington man has been ordered to pay a fine and costs of £458 for failing to attend an interview required by environmental authorities.
Tyrone Batty, of Lowson Street, Darlington, was found to have breached a section of the Environment Act 1995 by not appearing for a scheduled interview at Central House in Darlington on February 13.
The case was proved in Batty’s absence at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on May 20.
Batty was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim services surcharge of £88, and must also pay £150 in court costs.

Magistrates issued a collection order, requiring Batty to pay the total sum of £458 by June 17.
Section 108 of the Environment Act gives authorities powers to require individuals to assist with investigations linked to environmental protection.
Failure to comply is an offence under the same Act. The case was brought by Darlington Council.
