Costa to open new Darlington Station kiosk later this year

The coffee firm was revealed as one of the three new tenants in the station’s new eastern concourse when the space finally opened to the public on May 17. 

Joining Greggs and Simply Fresh, Costa will take up a spot underneath the escalators and is expected to boast its own small seating area.

It is not yet known what the opening of the new Costa means for the current kiosk, situated in the historic station just before the ticket gates. 

However, the chain has now confirmed the new 36 sq m kiosk will be opening later this year and will be recruiting new staff members.

A spokesperson said: “We’re excited to be opening our new Costa Coffee kiosk at Darlington Railway Station later this year. 

“We expect to recruit approximately nine talented team members to support the launch, and look forward to serving the local community with their favourite Costa coffee once the store opens.” 

Signs were erected on the vacant unit teasing that Costa was coming soon to the concourse earlier this month, alongside Greggs and Simply Fresh.

Greggs will take up the largest shop in the concourse at 148 square metres, followed by Simply Fresh, which will boast 79 sq m of space. 

The new concourse is arguably the standout of the major £140m redevelopment project, complete with its new entrance and 650-space car park. 

An elevated walkway connects the new concourse to the existing historic station, which has also been given a facelift and will soon boast a modernised western entrance.

The extension to the station has been designed to “mould the historic grandeur of the Grade-ll listed station” with modern facilities and waiting areas. 

The overhaul is intended to improve reliability and capacity on the East Coast Main Line, improving the frequency and reliability of trains along the line and across the region.
