An independent pet shop in County Durham which puts raw feeding at the heart of its business has relocated into its new home.
JKB Raws, which was established in 2022, is now based at 38 King Street in Spennymoor after relocating from its former site at Enterprise City on the town's outskirts.
The independent pet shop specialises in frozen and chilled raw food, natural treats and supplements for dogs and cats.
Run by couple Jason Blyth and Kayley Elliott, both 36 and from Spennymoor, the shop aims to help owners tailor their pets’ diets rather than processed pet foods.
Jason said they were inspired to develop the business after seeing the impact a raw diet had on their own dogs.
He said: “We started looking into raw feeding when one of our dogs had ongoing tummy and skin problems, and nothing from the usual brands seemed to help.
“Within a few months of switching to raw, the difference in their coat, energy and overall health was incredible, and that really lit a fire under us to learn more.”
JKB Raws stocks a range of complete raw meals and ingredients from established raw pet food brands, alongside bones, chews and natural treats.
They also offer a small range of toys and accessories for dogs and cats.
As well as offering one-to-one advice, Jason plans to run regular information evenings and question-and-answer sessions for raw feeding beginners and more experienced owners.
He said: “We know raw feeding can feel a bit daunting if you’re new to it, so the idea is to make it as accessible and uncomplicated as possible.
“People can come in, talk to us about their dog or cat, and we’ll help them work out a plan that suits their lifestyle and budget.”

The couple hope their move into the town centre will help them reach more customers from across Durham, with nearby parking and opening hours aimed at fitting around work and school runs.
Jason said: “We’re really excited to be part of the Spennymoor community. People here love their pets, and if we can help even a handful of them see their animals happier and healthier, then this shop will have been worth it.”
The shop is now open at 38 King Street, with Jason available to guide customers through portion sizes, storage and safe handling of raw products.
