A vintage comic book featuring the first appearance of the Avengers has sold for more than £3,000 at auction.
The Avengers #1 comic, which also includes the first reference to the team name "The Avengers," was sold for £3,430 at Teesside-based Vectis Auctions.
The "Cents" issue attracted high interest, ultimately being sold to a UK-based online bidder after a series of internet bids.
The comic was sold in very good condition and had already received several commission bids before the auction began.
The growing popularity of Marvel and DC franchises continues to push demand for key comic books and related collectables.

In the same auction, a collection of The Magic Comic series fetched £4,900.
Produced after The Beano and The Dandy from 1939 to 1941, The Magic Comic ceased publication due to wartime paper rationing, with only 80 issues made.
The editor, Bill Powrie, was killed in action during the war.
The intense bidding battle lasted two minutes, which is considered lengthy in the auction world, with the winning bid placed by a Vectis online bidder.
