A man has been arrested after a car flipped onto its roof in rural Teesdale.

Emergency crews were called to the B6277 near Newbiggin, between the A66 and Barnard Castle, around 8.30am on Thursday (May 21), where a car overturned.

The driver, the car's sole occupant, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Durham Police confirmed he was arrested on suspicion of driving offences, including driving while under the influence of drink or drugs and having no insurance.

The road was closed while the crash was cleared.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.31am on Thursday (May 21) to reports of a road traffic incident on the B6277 near Newbiggin.

“We dispatched an ambulance crew to the scene and transported one patient to Darlington Memorial for further treatment.”
