A jealous brute carried out a sickening campaign of abuse on his then partner spitting in her face and threatening to petrol bomb her home.
Jamie Storey was said to be overcome with feelings of jealousy, accusing his partner of sleeping with other men.
Teesside Crown Court heard that Storey had a “propensity” for such behaviour, as he has a conviction for violence with a previous partner, for which he received a 21-month prison sentence in March 2022.
The 32-year-old, of Oakerside Drive, Peterlee, was convicted on unanimous verdicts after a recent trial of controlling or coercive behaviour in a relationship, assault by beating and threatening to destroy or damage property.
He admitted a further similar charge of threats to damage property on the eve of his trial.
Storey appeared at Wednesday's (May 20) sentencing hearing by video link from Holme House Prison, in Stockton.
Prosecuting counsel Rebecca Brown read to the hearing a victim impact statement, given to police on the day the final threats were made.
She described how, since being in a relationship with the defendant, her life and mental well-being have been in a “downward spiral”, with feelings of anxiety, particularly after their break-up when he threatened to petrol bomb and cause other damage to her home.
The victim said he would regularly grab her and throw her around the room, making threats and accusing her of sleeping with other men, while putting her down, accusing her of being, variously, “a s**g”, “a s**t”, and “a prostitute.”
He also spat in her face after a row in her garden where he pushed her around.
She added: “I’m in fear of my life and terrified of what he is capable of doing.”
Miss Brown said at the time threats were made that damage would be caused to the victim’s home, a window was put out, and she went out to see figures with faces covered outside, but it could not be proved that the defendant was involved or behind the attack.
Calum McNicholas, for Storey, told the court the defendant was exposed to domestic violence in his youth and, so, has, “a degree of insight” into the problem.
Mr McNicholas said the defendant told the Probation Service report author that he intends to move away from the area his, now, ex-partner lives, upon his release from prison.
Recorder Jeremy Hill-Baker, who presided over last month’s trial, told Storey that what became plain during the hearing was: “This was a relationship typified by your jealousy, by your belief she was being unfaithful to you.
“That was an unreasonably jealous belief, leading to you being abusive and threatening her.
“You assaulted her by putting her up against a wall, made threats to kill her, made offensive remarks about her, spitting in her face, threatening to damage her home and petrol bomb her house.”

Imposing a 30-month prison sentence, the Recorder said Storey had affected his victim’s mental health and emotional well-being, “causing her to fear during a sustained period of behaviour.”
He also put in place a restraining order for the future protection of the victim.
It prohibits Storey from approaching or contacting the victim for the next ten years.
