A person was hit by a train between Northallerton and York with all lines blocked on the East Coast Main Line.
Emergency services are at the scene this afternoon (May 18), and rail operators say services through the area are being cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised, with disruption expected until around 5pm.
A spokesperson for LNER said: “LNER services are currently disrupted due to a person being hit by a train between Northallerton and York.
“Trains running may be delayed, altered or cancelled at short notice. This disruption is expected to last until 5pm.
“Please check your entire journey before you travel.”
The incident is affecting services between York and Darlington, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, with all lines closed while emergency services deal with the situation.
Road transport is being requested to operate between York and Newcastle in both directions, covering all intermediate stations.
Passengers can find the locations of rail replacement bus stops on the LNER website and are advised to speak to station staff for help.
Rail operators say that if you decide to travel from a different station because of the disruption and need to return there later, you will be able to use your existing ticket to do so at no extra cost.
