Two new drive-thrus could be built on the land of an eyesore North East hotel.
Discussions are underway for two firms to move onto the land of the asbestos-ridden Golden Eagle hotel in Thornaby once the building is reduced to rubble.
Town centre owner LCP Proudreed has submitted plans to build 204.4m² and 167.2m² units on the land along with 40 parking spaces and some green landscaping.
The proposals, submitted earlier this month, detail how LCP Proudreed is “seeking sufficient flexibility to ensure that the site is attractive” to the potential firms.
It comes as the major demolition work on the Trenchard Avenue hotel, which is thought to have been built in 1969 and has been closed for several years, continues.
The project has been years in the making and has been pushed back several times after damage was caused by a string of break-ins and blazes.
The damage cost £600,000.
It is hoped that the Golden Eagle could be fully torn down by this autumn.
The proposals submitted to Stockton Borough Council describe how the site is well-suited for drive-thrus, being “predominantly surrounded by retail and leisure uses”.
“The proposed redevelopment of the Golden Eagle site would be adequately served in terms of access and parking, with no adverse transport impacts in terms of capacity or highway safety”, the report said.
Landscaping would be introduced around the border of the development to “assist with the delivery of green infrastructure” and the building would be designed as “simple contemporary additions to the area”.
The report added that the intention would be to “pay due regard” to the adjoining Thornaby’s new £14million leisure facility.

The site is currently under construction and once complete will be home to a five-lane swimming pool, gym, sauna and changing rooms.
The Eagle has been shuttered for several years and is understood to have been run as a pub on the ground floor until the mid to late 2010s.
Before that, the site operated as a bar and hotel, the venue often hosted wedding receptions, birthday parties, and Christmas work parties over its decades-long run.
The council took control of the hotel in October 2024.
