An industrial estate was evacuated as firefighters battled a fire in Northallerton overnight, and an investigation is underway to determine what caused the blaze.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Tannery Lane at about 8.30pm, following reports that an industrial unit had caught fire.

Four fire crews from Northallerton, Thirsk and Stokesley arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames.

There were no injuries reported during the incident.

The fire service says that an investigation has been launched to determine what caused the fire on Tannery Lane.

A spokesperson for the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Both crews from Northallerton, Thirsk and Stokesley responded to a fire inside an industrial unit on Tannery Lane in Northallerton at 8.33pm.

"All persons had evacuated before the crew's arrival with no reported injuries.

"After the fire had been extinguished carefully to prevent water run off, multiple firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to dampen down any hotspots identified with the thermal imaging camera.

"The incident was then handed back to the responsible person, and a fire investigation will take place during daylight hours to determine the cause."
