Hundreds of solar panels could soon be installed on the rooftop of a North East bingo hall.
Plans have been submitted to Sunderland City Council for the Buzz Bingo site off Pallion New Road, near the Queen Alexandra Bridge roundabout, and would see more than 900 solar panels installed on the roof.
The panels would help reduce carbon emissions, with panels covering the entire roof while leaving a one-metre edge clear.
This application follows a trend of similar proposals across Sunderland and South Tyneside, as organisations look to slash their carbon emissions.
More recent plans have included solar panels for factory units, leisure sites, health buildings, and schools.

National estimates suggest a well‑sized rooftop system can provide a significant chunk of a building’s power needs, with some large commercial arrays covering about a quarter of a site’s annual electricity use.
Nationally, it is also reported that the number of solar installations has surged as costs have fallen sharply over the past decade, making projects like this far more viable for entertainment venues than they once were.
