A world-renowned pianist is set to perform in Darlington, it has been announced.

Jean-Efflam Bavouzet will take to the stage at Central Hall of the Dolphin Centre on Sunday, May 24, in what is expected to be a "rare" and memorable appearance.

He is best known for his critically-acclaimed recordings and performances of the complete solo piano works of composers including Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy, and Ravel.

Greg Johnson, chairman of the Darlington Piano Society, said: “Opportunities to bring a pianist of such standing to Darlington are as rare as hen’s teeth and to have the chance of doing so during Jean-Effam’s hectic global activity in 2026 is one we are pleased to have achieved.

"This will be a wonderful way of spending a Sunday afternoon during the Bank Holiday weekend”.

His recordings have received widespread acclaim, including Gramophone magazine awards, and are frequently featured on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM.

Tickets are £25 and can be purchased at the door by cash or contactless payment, or in advance online at www.dpiano.co.uk.

Admission is free for those aged under 21.
