Two cyclists were taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a crash.

The collision took place on Brunton Lane, at the junction with Warkworth Woods, in Newcastle, at 1.50pm on Thursday, April 16.

It was reported that a white Hyundai Tucson has collided with two bikes, injuring the riders, both men in their 60s.

They each sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment, but have since been discharged.

The Hyundai driver stopped at the scene and has been assisting police with their inquiries.

Officers from the force’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have since launched a full investigation and are today (Saturday May 2) appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly keen to speak with several witnesses who assisted at the scene and have not yet come forward to police.

Investigators would also like to speak to anyone who was travelling in the area at the time, and who may have phone, dashcam or CCTV footage.
