Garage doors damaged in Middleton St George attempted burglary

Multiple garage doors were smashed open in an overnight attempted burglary in a Darlington village.

Police were called to reports of the incident in Pounteys Close in Middleton St George. shortly before 2.30am on Wednesday, April 22.

Five garages were targeted and the doors were left damaged. It is not believed that anything was taken from inside the garages.

A picture from the scene shows multiple garage doors smashed into, which witnesses believe may have been caused by a car.

A resident of Middleton St George said: "I just went to go to the garage like I walk past every morning and saw the damage.

"I don't own one but I know someone who does and it is just a real shame to see that people would cause damage to others property without having a care. It is just such a shame."

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers were called to reports of attempted burglary at five residential garages in Middleton-St-George on Wednesday, April 22.

“The incident happened in Pounteys Close shortly before 2.30am.

“The garages sustained damage to the doors. It is not believed anything was taken from inside.

“An investigation is ongoing.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 19 of April 22.”
