A County Durham farm and eco-education centre has been shortlisted for a national award.

Dalton Moor Farm and The School of Sustainable Living & Wellbeing, based in Seaham, is officially a finalist in the Net Hero category at this year’s Small Awards.

The Small Awards is a UK-wide competition organised by Small Business Britain, now in its 10th year, which celebrates the achievements of small businesses across the country.

Jenny Connor, who runs Dalton Moor Farm, said: "I am really proud to have been shortlisted for the Net Hero Award.

"Sustainability is the founding principle of my business and runs through everything we do."

The farm has achieved a net carbon saving of 244,831kg CO2e per year.

Through its School of Sustainable Living & Wellbeing, the farm aims to "rewild" people of all ages by encouraging them to reconnect with nature.

Ms Connor is a retired doctor, dance teacher, vegan farmer, food producer, teacher, root cause lifestyle medicine coach, and hypnotherapist.

She now describes herself as a "rewilder of land and humans".

Dalton Moor Farm is one of eight finalists in the Net Hero Award category, which recognises a small business with an exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability.

Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain, said: "We are so proud to be celebrating a decade of the Small Awards.

"The awards celebrate the very best of the UK’s small business owners, who make such a difference in their local communities and are a key driver of the nation’s economic growth.

"The awards are a great opportunity to recognise the success and contributions of so many small businesses - Dalton Moor Farm is extremely deserving of being a finalist, and we look forward to celebrating together in May."

Winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday, May 21.

The Small Awards were launched in 2017 to recognise small businesses often overlooked by other national awards schemes.
