An investigation into the death of an 11-month-old baby boy remains ongoing, more than a month after his death.

Durham Police confirmed there is an active police investigation following the incident on March 12, in Seaham.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Emergency services attended an address in Seaham on March 12 following the death of an 11-month-old baby boy.

“A police investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the incident and that inquiry remains ongoing.”

Emergency services were called to the Deneside area of Seaham at 8.45am on Thursday, March 12, after an incident at a private address.

The 11-month-old baby boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed an investigation was launched to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, and inquiries remain ongoing.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) previously confirmed they attended the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Our critical care team was activated at 8.44am to an incident in Seaham.

“We had a paramedic and two doctors on board our aircraft but they were subsequently stood down and returned back to base.”

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) also attended the scene.

It said: “We received a call at 8.36am on Thursday 12 March to reports of an incident at a private address in Seaham.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, and a duty officer to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).”
