Charity wine tasting and coffee morning at Ripon Cathedral

The two events, organised by Ripon Cathedral supporters for Christian Aid Week 2026, are part of the annual UK-wide campaign to raise funds for international projects tackling poverty.

Dorothy Gray, one of the organisers, said: "Every year, during this appeal, people across Britain and Ireland have seven days to make a difference and raise funds for Christian Aid Week.

"We believe we can tackle global justice together and that in a world of plenty, there shouldn’t be so many people in poverty."

Christian Aid Week runs from May 10 to 16.

The fundraising begins with a wine tasting on Saturday, May 9, at Thorpe Prebend House, High Saint Agnesgate, from 6.30pm to 9pm.

The event will feature six wines presented by enthusiast Mike Wherritt, with tasting notes and appetisers included in the £12 ticket price.

The following weekend, supporters will host a coffee morning at the same venue on Friday, May 14, from 10am to 11.30am.

Elaine Gisbourne, co-organiser, said: "There will be scones, cakes, and other refreshments and everyone is welcome."

Money raised will help Christian Aid and its partners to support communities to find practical and sustainable ways out of poverty.

This year’s appeal focuses on Nairobi, Kenya, where families face severe hardship earning less than a dollar a day and struggle to afford food, rent, and education.

With support from Christian Aid’s partner, Beacon of Hope, families are receiving seeds, tools, and training to grow vegetables in small urban spaces, providing a stable food source to eat or sell.
