A North Yorkshire theme park has been named one of the cheapest in the country for a day out.

Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park in Ripon came second on the ranking, offering visitors 11 rollercoasters for just £25 a ticket.

The ratings were based on ticket prices, ride numbers, reviews, parking, and hotel costs.

Scott Yule, commercial strategy director at Aqua, said: "As we head into the spring and summer months, many families start planning days out and looking for fun activities to enjoy together.

"Theme parks are often at the top of the list, but the cost of a visit can add up quickly, particularly when trips are arranged at short notice."

Lightwater Valley’s free parking, value ride count, and positive 4.1-star visitor rating secured its high score, though hotel prices in the area average a pricier £222 per night.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach topped the list, with 26 rollercoasters for £32 and an average hotel stay costing £121.

It was followed in joint third place by Gulliver’s Land and Fantasy Island, both offering options under £27 a ticket with affordable nearby accommodation.

Gulliver’s Land in Buckinghamshire offers free parking, seven rollercoasters, and a 4.1-star rating, with hotels averaging £135 per night.

Fantasy Island in Skegness charges £26 for entry and has 10 rollercoasters, with hotel costs also averaging £135.

Other parks in the UK top 10 included Drayton Manor, Alton Towers, Adventure Island, and Paultons Park.

The least expensive theme parks by entry price included M&D’s Scotland Theme Park, The Milky Way Adventure Park, and Twinlakes Family Theme Park.

Some parks offer free entry for children under a certain height.
