A museum is offering a chance to step back in time—by working in history, not just visiting it.
Beamish Museum is hiring for a range of seasonal roles that bring the past to life through immersive storytelling and hands-on visitor engagement at its County Durham site.
The museum welcomes around 800,000 visitors each year and relies on a team of more than 500 staff and about 400 volunteers.
The roles focus on delivering historical interpretation and experiences across the museum’s period settings.
What jobs are available at Beamish?
Mining Life Engager
This seasonal role in the Mining Life Team involves communicating the social and industrial history of the North East from the 1900s.
Engagers are tasked with making history relatable and memorable by delivering interactive visitor experiences.
Georgian and Rural Life Engager
Working in the Georgian and Rural Life section, these team members help tell a wide range of stories from rural Britain’s past.
The museum said: "You might be a Land Girl or a Farmer on Monday and Georgian Maid or a Potter on Tuesday.
"We are looking for passionate individuals that like variety and independence but can at the same time deliver a world-class experience to our visitors."
Food and Beverage Engager
These seasonal team members work across Beamish’s many food outlets.
Duties include preparing food, operating tills, and maintaining front-of-house areas in a friendly and welcoming manner.
The museum said: "We are currently seeking enthusiastic, hands on, excellent communicators to join our Food & Beverage Team."
Entrance Team Member
Entrance team members are the first point of contact for visitors and play a key role in shaping the Beamish experience.
Responsibilities include working in admissions, retail, catering areas, and the car park while ensuring every visitor receives a warm welcome.
The museum said: "We are looking to recruit Entrance team members to welcome visitors to the museum in a positive, friendly manner, delivering outstanding customer service."
1950s Town Engager
These engagers work across the museum’s 1950s exhibits, helping visitors connect with stories from the era using different approaches to storytelling and interaction.
The role requires enthusiasm, strong communication skills, and a passion for north east history.
1900s Town Engager
Working in the 1900s Town Team, these team members engage visitors with the social and industrial history of the North East during that period.
The focus is on creating dynamic, emotional, and memorable experiences that connect visitors to the stories of the past.

All current roles are seasonal and offer up to 37 hours per week at a rate of £13.01 per hour.
While specific start dates have not been provided, the closing date for all roles is listed as April 24, 2026.
