A beauty salon promising customers a “luxury” experience has opened its doors in Darlington.
Biso Ru Ceylon on Post House Wynd, opened to customers last Thursday (April 2).
Anu Pahala Gedara, 38, who has lived in Darlington for two years, took the plunge to open her own place after more than 15 years’ trading in her home country of Sri Lanka.
The mum-of-three said she hopes the new business will be a “beautiful attraction” for customers.
She said: “The renovations took more than two months, and my husband has been integral in making it all come together.
“We did everything ourselves while we were doing other jobs and looking after the kids. I have three children, so it’s been really full on and hard work getting it all together and ready for opening.
“It was important to me to build something nice, something that people will be attracted to and a place where people can come in and relax.”
The 38-year-old said, despite feeling a “bit nervous”, she wanted to pursue her passion for beauty treatments and create her own space in the town.
Inside, the salon has been carefully designed to create a welcoming, relaxing and luxury experience for her clients.
She said: “I wanted it to feel like somewhere people enjoy coming to. A nice, relaxing place where they can come and have treatments done.
“I’m doing everything at the moment, including brows, reshaping and tinting, lash lifting and eyelash tinting, lamination, simple haircuts, colouring and pedicures.
“It’s just me running it for now, so I’m doing all the work myself.”
Looking ahead, she hopes to grow the business and expand the range of services on offer.
She said: “My dream is to expand and just keep improving it and getting more customers through the door.

“I would love to hire a few members of staff as well as I’m currently doing everything myself.
“It’s a lot to manage, but I’m really happy to have opened.
“I just want to make something good for the town and for my customers.”
