Search the Public Notice PortalOvernight road closures are set to hit the A1 as maintenance and improvement works get underway, according to a public notice.
The closures will affect the road between Junction 65 (Birtley) and Junction 80 (Seaton Burn) in both directions from 8pm to 6am, starting April 27 and ending December 23.
All slip and link roads, as well as laybys adjacent to the affected carriageways, will also be closed.
Traffic will be redirected via alternative junctions of the A1, A19, and local roads, with clear signage in place.
The duration of each closure will vary depending on the specific work being carried out.
Emergency services, works, and winter maintenance vehicles will be exempt from these closures.

The order comes into force on April 26.
The works are to enable maintenance and improvement works to be carried out in safety.
