Steve Cram led a 'Doughnut Run' to reveal the route for a new 5K event in Sunderland.

More than 150 people joined the social run, which started and ended at Sheepfolds Stables, unveiling details of the SG Petch Sunderland City Runs 5K.

The race is scheduled to take place on the evening of Saturday, May 16.

The event was hosted by Steve Cram in partnership with Chris Dickson from SG Petch and Deep North Coffee.

The ‘Fuelled by Doughnuts’ running club, Wild Wellness, also participated.

Each runner was treated to a free cherry doughnut and the event concluded with the 'Crammy Quiz,' where the winner took home a Chery car for the weekend, courtesy of SG Petch.

The social run was part of the build-up to the 2026 Sunderland City Runs, scheduled for May 16 and 17.

The races are being organised by Events of the North, in collaboration with Active Sunderland and Sunderland City Council.

The new Sunderland City 5K, happening on the evening of May 16, is designed to cater to both seasoned athletes and new runners.

The organisers aim to draw participants from outside the region, with a schedule of races set for both Saturday and Sunday.

During the Doughnut Run, participants briefly stopped outside Sunderland’s Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, which is providing special discounts for runners throughout the weekend.

SG Petch Sunderland City Runs founder Steve Cram expressed his delight at the turnout for the Doughnut Run.

He said: “It was brilliant to see so many people turn out for the Doughnut Run – I’m sure that they were there mainly to see the new 5K route, and not just for the sweet treat afterwards!

“We’re determined to make the Sunderland City Runs as inclusive as possible, so that it appeals to runners of all ages and abilities.
