A long-standing North Yorkshire homeware store has officially reopened under new ownership.
The Castle, a Ripon interiors and homeware shop on North Street, is beginning a new chapter after being taken over by Zoe and Robert Nemes, who have taken the reins following the retirement of previous owners Graham and Sasha Wilkes.
The store relaunched on March 31 under the Nemes’ ownership.
Mr Nemes said: "Over 20 years ago I started my career in retail directly opposite The Castle, where I got to know Graham well.
"He was a great mentor to me in those early years, so it feels incredibly special to now be taking on the business from him and Sasha.
"They have done Ripon proud, and we wish them both a very happy and well-deserved retirement."
Mr Nemes brings more than two decades of retail experience to the business.
The Castle has been a staple of Ripon’s retail scene for more than 30 years, offering a carefully selected range of furniture, home accessories, and design pieces.
Mr and Mrs Nemes live in a village between Ripon and Richmond.
Robert Nemes said: "Our decision to acquire The Castle was driven by a deep appreciation for its heritage and strong connection to the local community.
"We recognised an opportunity to evolve the store’s offering while preserving the quality, service, and character customers value.
"Central to our plans is creating a space that inspires comfort, style, and creativity in the home."
The couple intend to honour the legacy of the Wilkes while bringing fresh ideas and energy to the business.
Mrs Nemes, co-owner, said: "We are so excited about this new chapter for our family business.
"The atmosphere throughout the opening day was incredibly special, marking not only a successful opening but also a significant moment of transition.
"We both feel incredibly proud to be taking on such a well-loved business and to be continuing its story.
"The support we’ve already received has meant so much to us, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors."
While many customer favourites will remain, the Nemes family plans to introduce new collections that blend contemporary style with timeless design.
These will include sofas, dining furniture, living room pieces, outdoor options, and customisable items.
They also plan to deliver more immersive showroom displays and in-store events.
Other additions will include lighting, mirrors, statement décor, artificial flowers, and a wider selection of premium home fragrances such as St Eval.

The couple also hope to champion more locally made products.
While keen to preserve the store’s established reputation, the new owners have set out a clear vision to enhance the customer experience both in-store and, eventually, online.
Mrs Nemes said: "Building on a proud legacy spanning more than three decades, we are honoured to continue The Castle’s story while introducing a fresh vision for its future."
