All the roadworks in and around Darlington on Wednesday

Utility companies and the council are undertaking a number of major infrastructure projects, repairs, and urgent fixes.

Which roadworks are taking place in Darlington on Wednesday?

Grainger Street to Clifton Road Cross Back Street

A road closure is scheduled from March 25 to March 26 for utility asset works at the rear of 131 Clifton Road, linking Grainger Street to Clifton Road.

Northumbrian Water has been granted permission to line the sewer along this back street.

This work will not require excavation, but the closure is expected to cause local disruption while it is carried out.

Clifton Road and Belvedere Road Back Street

Ongoing until March 27, Clifton Road & Belvedere Road back streets are closed for major utility repair and maintenance works being carried out by Northumbrian Water.

The closure, from the rear of 1 to 27 Belvedere Road, will allow lining works to the sewer, with no excavation required.

The works are designed to improve the reliability of the local sewerage system.

Brighton Road and Belgrave Street Back Street

Also continuing until March 27, Northumbrian Water is dealing with an urgent leakage issue at the rear of 41 Brighton Road.

The works require a full road closure as repairs are made by excavating the existing boundary box and fittings. Residents are advised that access may be restricted.

Eastbourne Road and Belgrave Street Back Street

Immediate repair works are ongoing at the rear of 6 Belgrave Street, after a leakage was detected.

Northumbrian Water is renewing boundary box fittings and excavating as necessary, with the road closed to enable safe completion.

These urgent works are expected to be finished by March 27.

Victoria Road North Back

A planned closure is taking place from March 23 to April 1 at the rear of 119 Hotel, Victoria Road North Back. Northern Gas Networks is laying a new service in the footway and carriageway.

Crown Street

Due to a sinkhole, Crown Street is closed outside Sports Direct while Darlington Borough Council undertakes urgent investigations.

The closure began on March 22 and is set to remain in place until March 27, or until it is deemed safe to reopen the carriageway.

Skinnergate

Motorists should note that Skinnergate remains closed for works until March 26.

The closure will affect through traffic and is required for unspecified works on the carriageway.

Archdeacon Crescent

A major road closure continues until March 27 as Northern Powergrid carries out works between Newton Lane and Stooperdale Avenue.

The company is excavating to install a new underground electric cable and making the necessary connections beneath the footway and carriageway.

West Auckland Road

West Auckland Road is subject to major works with multi-way traffic signals in operation from 160 West Auckland Road to Willow Road.

This includes excavation for underground electric cable installation and will continue until April 17, potentially causing delays for commuters.

Thompson Street West

A road closure is in place from the junction with North Road to Longfield Road as Northern Powergrid installs approximately 750 metres of new electric cabling.

The project is under way and scheduled for completion on March 26.

Salters Lane North

From March 19 to April 10, stop/go boards will control traffic as works progress between Thompson Street East and the substation.

Northern Powergrid is laying new underground electric cables, with operations affecting both footways and the carriageway.

Planned and Ongoing Major Works

Additional long-term projects are set to continue, including major road, lane, and footpath closures at Blackwell, Carmel Road South, Beaumont Hill, Harrowgate Village, Abbey Road, Balmoral Road, and Rotary Way.

These involve everything from utility replacement to highway improvement, with potential changes to traffic flow, diversions, and delays expected.
