A storybook gosling is taking children on a springtime adventure.
WWT Washington is teaming up with Macmillan Children’s Books to bring Gozzle, from the new picture book by Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie, to life in a special outdoor experience.
Running from March 20 to May 31 2026, the event invites families to follow Gozzle’s journey through the wetlands as part of a playful storytelling trail.
Julia Donaldson, children's author, said: "Sara and I are so happy that our little gosling is going to be brought to life beyond the page.
"I've been to the amazing WWT wetlands before so I can imagine how much families will enjoy exploring them and spotting all the wildlife while they follow the Gozzle story trail."
The adventure follows Gozzle, a newly-hatched gosling, as she explores the wetlands and learns what it takes to grow up.
Children can help Gozzle along the trail from fuzzy fledgling to grown-up goose by discovering bear dens, balancing on stepping stones, and searching for 15 hidden mini Gozzles.
Other hands-on activities include Gozzle’s Vet Check station, where children can care for a toy goose, study x-rays, and learn about the work of wetland vets.
Gill Pipes, centre manager at WWT Washington, said: "Spring is one of the most exciting times to visit WWT Washington and Gozzle experience is an immersive, accessible way for families to enjoy it together - making those first special memories in our wetlands."
The trail ends at a set of giant goose wings where visitors can wave Gozzle off on her first migration.
The experience is included with admission to WWT Washington and is free for WWT members.
It is suitable for families with young children.
