Humble Pie ‘n’ Mash is a family-run business housed inside a 16th-century timber-framed building that has been “lovingly restored back to its timber-framed beginnings”.
With an open fire and retro décor, the shop leans into its 1940s theme, something customers say "adds to its charm".
Often described as offering an “antidote to the area's plethora of chippies, whilst maintaining traditional seaside charm”, the pie shop has built a loyal following over the years. It even describes itself as “world-famous” on its Instagram profile.
The menu centres around homemade pies made fresh each morning, encased in scratch-made pastry and filled with ingredients sourced from local farmers.
Options range from traditional Slow Braised Steak with Stout & Leek to more unusual combinations such as Sausage & Black Pudding pie and the vegetarian favourite Hommity Pie.
Pies can be enjoyed on their own or served the classic way — with mash and peas, topped with gravy.
The pie shop currently holds an impressive 4.7 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor, based on nearly 4,000 reviews, with more than 3,100 rated “excellent”.
One recent visitor wrote: “The cosy, old-fashioned interior adds so much charm—like stepping back in time in the best possible way.
