Parking rules tightened at Shotley Bridge Hospital

ANPR cameras have been installed around Shotley Bridge Hospital in Consett where cars have repeatedly been left on restricted roads, the County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust said.

They say the issue can affect access for patients, visitors, staff, and emergency vehicles.

The hospital’s visitor, patient and staff car parks are not affected by the changes and remain free to use.

The measures relate to some roads around the building where there are already double yellow lines.

A 20-minute restriction has also been put in for drop-off spaces outside the hospital.

NHS Property Services said the changes were made after a sustained increase in inconsiderate parking that has affected access to the hospital.

A spokesperson for NHS Property Services (NHSPS) said: “NHSPS, supported by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, have recently appointed The Parking Group to manage parking at Shotley Bridge Hospital.

"This change follows a sustained increase in inconsiderate parking at the hospital which has, at times, prevented NHS colleagues, patients and visitors from accessing and delivering care.

“Parking remains free of charge, however all visitors are now encouraged to use the main car park.

"This measure is designed to ensure parking spaces are used appropriately and remain available for those attending the hospital, impacting patients and NHS hospital colleagues positively, and improving their overall experience.”
