Eight arrested after shots fired at car in St Helen Auckland

Shots were fired in at a car in a 'targeted attack' on a County Durham street, with eight men arrested.

Shortly after 12.15am on Monday (March 9), police said, a number of shots were fired towards a Vauxhall Corsa, on Northbridge Park, St Helen Auckland.

The car had four men inside and immediately left the area, but was later traced by police.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Police investigating have been going door-to-door and are now examining CCTV from the scene.

Durham Police said specialist officers have carried out a detailed forensic search of the area and have recovered several items for further examination.

Eight men, aged between 20 and 16 years old, have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

They have since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “We are confident this was a targeted attack and we are following several lines of enquiry.

“We would like to thank the local community for their co-operation during our ongoing investigation into this incident.

“We would ask anyone who has any information about this incident should report it, either directly to the police or anonymously to Crimestoppers.”
