A County Durham driving instructor died in hospital just five days before Christmas, an inquest heard.
David Richard Terry from Stanley died at the University Hospital of North Durham on December 20, 2025.
An inquest into the 45-year-old's death was opened at Crook Coroners' Court on Tuesday (February 24), and heard there was an "element of self neglect" to his death.
A post mortem also confirmed his cause of death was due to a lack of insulin.
Coroners' officer Dawn Carter told the hearing: "I understand the circumstances to be that there is an element of self neglect in this case.
"He had carers to keep on top of his diabetes.
"On January 16, Dr. Sam Cook conducted a Post-Mortem Examination at Newcastle RVI Mortuary and gave the cause of death as diabetic ketoacidosis."

Senior Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield adjourned the hearing and scheduled a full inquest to take place on April 7 at 3pm.
In a post on Facebook in January, Mr Terry's family said: "It’s with huge sadness that I write this post to share with you all my husband, David Terry, passed away on December 20."
His funeral was held at Mountsett Crematorium on February 3.
