A man was branded a drunken ‘menace’ after being arrested for carrying a knife and attacking people with metal bars.
Ziko Sulieman was spotted fighting in the street outside of Turtle Bay in Middlesbrough town centre while armed with a six-inch kitchen knife.
Teesside Crown Court heard how police were able to track him on CCTV and arrest him in October 2024.
Lucy Todd, prosecuting, said the 40-year-old was arrested a year later when he was again fighting in the street this time armed with metal bars.
Dealing with the first incident, she said Sulieman told police that he was carrying the knife after he had previously been attacked in Middlesbrough town centre and he required medical attention to a hand injury after being bitten by a dog.
The second incident happened on Linthorpe Road when Sulieman became embroiled in an argument with three people.
Miss Todd said he was seen to be waving two metal bars about before striking people.
Sulieman, of Tennyson Street, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article from October 8, 2024.
He also pleaded guilty to affray, assault by beating and possession of an offensive weapon from October 22 last year.

Sophie Johnstone, mitigating, said her client had been attacked on several occasions in Middlesbrough town centre but accepted that it was inappropriate to carry a knife for his own defence.
Judge Richard Bennett branded the defendant a ‘menace’ as he jailed him for a total of 18 months.
He said: “It is clear to me that you are a menace when you are intoxicated in public and that when you are in drink you become embroiled in violence or anti-social behaviour.
“You then get arrested, charged and then repeat the cycle.”
