County Durham’s first rage room has announced its official opening date after renovation setbacks delayed its opening date twice prior.

Rage It Out, which is located at 12–16 Queen Street, is set to be Consett’s first rage room experience, bringing something entirely new to the town.

However, despite original plans of opening at the end of last year, the business confirmed on social media its official and final opening date will be March 6.

The business is being launched by a couple who wanted to bring back life to a derelict building which has been left empty for more than a decade.

They said: “One night the idea of a rage room just came to us.

“We started researching and realised the nearest one was Newcastle. There was nothing like it in Consett at all.”

Located in the town centre, the owners hope the new venue will bring new visitors to Consett.

The owners said: “There aren’t many places for people to go apart from pubs.

“This is just about having fun, having a laugh and letting off steam. It’s something new for the town and we really wanted it to feel welcoming.”

A rage room is a controlled space where visitors can smash objects such as bottles, furniture, and electronics as a way to release stress and tension.

Despite multiple setbacks caused by the age of the building, cold weather and issues with utilities, the owners have confirmed progress is now firmly in the final stages.

They said: “All the walls and floors are painted now, and we’re onto the finishing touches with furniture and getting everything ready.

“It finally feels real.”

Alongside the rage rooms, the venue will offer other activities including axe throwing and interactive games, with plans for specialist events in the future.

The owners have also been working with local charities to collect unsellable items to be smashed, while helping organisations reduce their disposal costs.

The owners said the response from the community has been “brilliant.”

They said: “The response so has just been brilliant.

“There’s a lot of humour in Consett and people really get it. We’ve had so many messages of support and offers of help.

“We’re just excited now to open the doors. We’ve powered through everything and we can’t wait to finally welcome people in.”

The booking system will go live in February, and customers have been told to keep an eye out on social media for updates.
