A woman who deliberately rammed her car into her partner before driving over his prone body on New Year’s Eve has been locked up.
Paige Wilkinson had been arguing with her partner throughout the evening before the situation came to a head as he walked home from a party.
Teesside Crown Court heard how the 31-year-old had been a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her partner and he had previous convictions for assaulting her and was on prison licence at the time.
Ian Mullarkey, prosecuting, said Wilkinson and her family headed to a friend’s home for a party before problems developed between the pair and she tried to drive home from Horden.
“He reached into the car and tried to get the keys,” he said. “The defendant got out of the car and punched him in the face.
“At this point, she has threatened to call the police, so he decided to leave on foot.
“A few minutes later, he became aware of her being behind him in the car and said she was going to call the police to get him recalled to prison.
“He shouted back at her and the next thing he remembers is hearing the car revving and being pinned up against the wall by that car.
“He fell under the wheels of the car and is driven over.”
Mr Mullarkey said the incident was captured on CCTV where she could be seen deliberately driving towards him.
The court heard how Wilkinson refused to give a sample for analysis after she was arrested for running over her partner leaving him with broken ribs, multiple fractures to his arm and fractured vertebrae.
Wilkinson, of Yoden Road, Peterlee, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, causing injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a sample for analysis following the incident on December 31, 2024.
Martin Scarborough, mitigating, said his client was likely to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time but she was fearful for her own safety at the time.
He urged the judge to taken into consideration the "prolonged violence" she had suffered at the hands of her victim throughout their relationship.
“She lives with regret everyday for what she has done,” he said.
Judge Jo Kidd sentenced the mother-of-five to two years and six months for all charges.

She said: “What is clear to me is that you have experienced ongoing trauma, exposure to violence in the home that you have then begun relationships where you have gone on to be the victim of domestic violence.
“The cycle of behaviour that you saw as a child is now repeating itself for you and also for your children.
“This is an enormously sad and difficult case.”
Wilkinson was also banned from driving for three years and three months and told she must pass an extended driving test before taking to the roads again.
