A man who crashed his Audi while almost double the drink drive limit has been banned from the roads.
Lewis Anderson's eyes were glazed, his speech was slurred, and he smelled of drink when police arrived at the scene in Wolsingham, County Durham on December 30, Peterlee Magistrates' Court heard,
James Gallagher, prosecuting, said he failed a roadside breathalyser and the lowest of two readings at a police station was 65mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, compared to the legal limit to drive of 35mg.
The 26-year-old defendant of Lydgate Lane, Wolsingham, admitted driving with excess alcohol in his system.
He told the court his insurance company was dealing with the damage caused.
Anderson apologised to the court and said it would not happen again.
Magistrates’ chairman Dr Peter Minto told him: “You are clearly facing a ban. There’s no doubt about that.
“You must now know offences of drink driving are an absolute ‘no, no’.

“Apart from being disqualified you know your insurance if you are to drive in future will be astronomical.”
Anderson was fined £430, with £85 costs and £172 statutory surcharge, totalling £687.
He was also banned from driving for 20 months, but he can reduce the length by 20 weeks if he passes a drink driving rehabilitation course by March 1, next year.
