Search the Public Notice PortalParts of the A690 in Durham will be subject to roadworks for until September as nearly £3m-worth of improvements are made to the road.
Durham County Council secured £2.94 million in funding from the Department for Transport to upgrade the A690 between Neville’s Cross and Crook, starting on February 2.
These works include new traffic lights, a pop-up park and ride facility, improved bus shelters, and upgrades to footpaths and road surfaces which are designed to improve access and ease congestion in the area.
Councillor Tim McGuinness, the council’s cabinet member for rural, farming, and transport, said: "We’re really pleased to be continuing this programme that will deliver nearly £3m worth of improvements along the busy A690 between Crook and Neville’s Cross.
"Inevitably, with any work to the highway network, there will be a level of disruption to the public, but we will seek to minimise this wherever possible.
"We would like to thank people in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out these important works, that will bring about long-term benefits for local residents and businesses, the travelling public, and pedestrians."
Work will begin around the A690 junction with St John’s Road in Meadowfield, where the new traffic lights and park and ride facility will be installed.
Preparatory work, including the removal of non-protected trees, will take place during off-peak hours over three days.

This will be followed by utility works starting on February 2 and continuing for up to four months, requiring traffic management.
Following the utility works, construction will start in May and is expected to finish by September.
The project also includes resurfacing that has been carried out at Meadowfield and upgrading part of the shared walking and cycling path.
