A woman caught carrying a knife in a North East town centre has been jailed after failing to attend probation service appointments.
Selina Johnston was arrested on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, with the kitchen knife in July last year.
Teesside Crown Court heard how the 42-year-old failed to turn up at court for her first appearance after she was released on bail.
Judge Deborah Sherwin sentenced Johnston to a total of 16 weeks in custody for both offences after she pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article, failing to attend court and a bail act offence.
She said: “It is a shame that you didn’t attend for your pre-sentence report as I suspect that the court would have had a degree of sympathy with you.

“Although, I can’t second guess what the result would have been but it may have affected the outcome.
“In a sense, you have brought this trouble down on yourself.”
Johnston, of Hill Crescent, Redcar, was told she would serve around half of her prison sentence before being released.
The judge added: “The court has been caused quite a degree of expensive inconvenience as a result of you not turning up on the occasions you should have, there has to be a separate penalty for the bail act offences.”
