A fire broke out in Darlington this morning leaving businesses "heartbroken".
A deep fat fryer fire broke out in the kitchen at Banqo: Eat & Drink at Darlington's Indoor Market this morning (December 31).
The fire was safely contained thanks to fast action from fellow traders, staff and the emergency services. No one was injured, but Darlington's Indoor Market said a few were left shaken.
A statement on the market's Facebook page reads: “This morning, a deep fat fryer fire broke out in the kitchen at Banqo: Eat & Drink in Darlington Market.

“Thanks to the incredibly swift actions of our amazing market traders, dedicated staff, and the outstanding response from the Darlington fire service, the fire was safely contained with no injuries - everyone is safe, which is the most important thing!"
The fire has caused significant damage to the kitchen, forcing the town centre food spot to close while repairs and safety checks are carried out.
The market said they are heartbroken but the business is determined to reopen.
They post continues: “While we’re heartbroken by this setback, we’re determined to bounce back - and that’s where you, our wonderful community, come in. Your future visits, kind words, and continued support will mean the world to @banqodarlington as they rebuild.”
Customers are being encouraged to support the business through its sister venues while work continues.

A Darlington's Indoor Market spokesperson said: “We’ll keep you updated on the progress and can’t wait to welcome you back soon, and you can still support their sister venues @shape_patisserieandbake @influencecafe1 @numbereightbakehouse in the meantime.”
Darlington Indoor Market traders and customers have already begun sharing messages of support to Banqo.
A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.06am today (December 31) to a kitchen fire at a café on West Row in Darlington.
“Two fire engines from Darlington Fire Station attended and on arrival, crews found a deep fat fryer was on fire.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used portable P50 extinguishers to put out the fire and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke.
“Crews left the scene at 11.13am.”
