Beamish Museum welcomes about 800,000 visitors every year, so it is no surprise that it takes a team of more than 500 paid staff and about 400 volunteers to keep the attraction up and running.
As the most popular paid attraction in the North East moves further into the new year, the County Durham museum is once again on the lookout for new people to join its team.
With vacancies now listed on its website, Beamish is offering opportunities ranging from hands-on technical work to leading a major creative project in the region.

1. Electrical Assistant
Beamish is looking to recruit an Electrical Assistant to join its skilled Maintenance Team, helping to ensure the museum operates safely and efficiently.
The job listing says the role “plays an important part in helping us keep the museum running safely and efficiently,” working alongside site electricians on electrical maintenance and repair work across the museum.
According to the advert, the role will involve supporting electricians with day-to-day tasks, helping to organise and coordinate electrical work on site, and ensuring all work is completed safely, to a high standard and in line with museum requirements.
Applicants will also be expected to follow health and safety procedures and risk assessments at all times.
Interviews for the role are likely to take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
2. Project Lead - Creative and Cultural Skills Hub
The museum is also recruiting a Project Lead for its Creative and Cultural Skills Hub, part of Durham County Council’s Into the Light programme, which launched in 2023 and runs until 2027.
The programme aims to cultivate talent, widen access to creative learning, education, enhance skills, and break down barriers in the creative industries.
The job listing says the Creative and Cultural Skills Hub hosted by Beamish focuses on “opening doors, strengthening pathways, and building a more inclusive, connected, and sustainable creative and cultural workforce in County Durham.”

The listing adds: "We recruit based on aptitude, positive attitude and potential, and work to ensure people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to work within the heritage sector.
