The national supermarket will officially be increasing the size of its Healaugh Park store after plans were green-lit by Stockton Borough Council this week.
It came several months after The Northern Echo reported that Aldi had been considering an extension “for some time” and wanted to improve the shopping experience for customers.
The shop, which will gain an extra 353m2 of floor space by extending into the current Whitworth Pharmacy, will feature a new entrance lobby, staff room, and customer toilet.
An Aldi spokesperson confirmed works are set to start in the new year, with hopes it will be completed between July and September next year.
They said: "We're very pleased that our application for an extension at our Healaugh Park store has been approved by Stockton Borough Council.
"Work will commence in the new year, and we expect this to be complete by Q3 2026."
Yarm Councillor Andrew Sherris said: “Yarm Aldi is a popular store that serves a wide area. The upgrading and extension is to be welcomed along with new customer toilets and improvements to the access and exit arrangements to the car park.
“Clearer signage and road markings have been requested and I hope this improves safety at what is a busy junction with not only Aldi traffic but the dentist and vets opposite and the nearby pub all using the road.'
“I also hope that new noise mitigation measures will reduce the impact on neighbouring properties to the north of the site.”
The supermarket will be extended out to its side where the current pharmacy and walkway is, with a new paved area added around the side of the extension.
The trolley bay will be extended and overall car parking spaces will be boosted to 89, with 85 customer spaces to the south and four staff spots to the north.
The extension also allows for a re-roofing of the existing shop, and widening of the service yard access.

The Healaugh Park complex as a whole, which is also home to Presto Pizza and Chinese takeaway Yarm Fast Food, has been owned by Aldi for many years.
Whitworth Pharmacy is now expected to move into the former 3D Leven Park Newsagents and Post Office, which closed in September, although no date for this has been given.
The former Post Office has since relocated and reopened at the Family Shopper on Mount Leven Road with a new postmaster and 60 hours of service each week.
