Drivers in County Durham should prepare for significant road closures as essential maintenance work is set to commence soon.
The A1M will experience closures from Junction 61 to Junction 63 for barrier renewals. The restrictions are expected to remain in place from December 7 at 8pm until December 10 at 6am, with lane closures occurring during the night from Monday to Tuesday and Sunday. Motorists should expect limits on lane width and speed during the work period.
Additionally, another section of the A1M, northbound and southbound, will face similar restrictions from Junction 61 to Junction 63. This closure will span from December 12 at 8pm until December 19 at 6am, and like before, will include lane closures during the nighttime hours. During this time, drivers should be mindful of changing conditions and the need for caution while navigating the area.
In Newton Aycliffe, road work on the A167 will result in a closure from Rushyford Roundabout to C34 Ricknall Lane.
The restrictions are scheduled to remain in place from December 15 at 8pm until December 19 at 6am on weekdays.
This includes impacts on Central Avenue and the A167 from the C34 Ricknall Lane junction to the B6443 St Cuthberts Way junction.
Northumbrian Water will enforce a road closure on the route leading to Hall Heads Farm starting from December 8 until December 24 due to new water main installation works.
This closure will be in effect all the time, causing potential disruptions for residents and local traffic. Additionally, a footpath closure (Bishop Auckland Footpath 64) will also be enforced to ensure safety during the work.
In Spennymoor, the High Street will be closed on December 13 from 9am to 8pm to accommodate the Spennymoor Christmas Market.
The restrictions will remain in place throughout this period, affecting local traffic as the market anticipates approx 499 people.
Eldon Lane will experience another planned closure on December 15 from 10pm to December 16 at 6am. Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd has organized this closure to allow for rail bridge de-vegetation works. Local drivers should be prepared for diversions during these hours as part of the ongoing maintenance of rail infrastructure.
In nearby Durham, the Brierville locality will witness a road closure due to new gas connection works running from December 8 at 8am until December 12 at 5pm.
Another gas-related project will lead to the closure of St Brandons Grove starting December 10 and continuing until December 23. The closure will be full-time due to ongoing gas main replacement works in the area, creating considerable disruption for local traffic.
In Consett, the back road along Durham Road will face a closure from December 15 to December 19 amid sewer repair works conducted by Northumbrian Water.
Lastly, in Lanchester, Peth Bank will be closed from December 8 to December 11 between 9.30am to 3.30pm, as Openreach takes over to conduct telecom cable repairs.
